News & Information

Some general information and bulletins:

  • Insurance: Prior to May 1st, 2007, it is required that all Shareholders and/or Lessees provide Wheeler Landing Yacht Harbor with an insurance certificate showing proof of proper insurance coverage on the owned (or leased) boat slip(s). Please make sure the certificates include valid dates, required coverage amounts, and indemnification. You can either fax this information in to WLYH or American Real Estate or give it directly to the Harbormaster. But please remember that the Harbormaster must have this in hand before you bring your boat in. Please refer to By-Laws and General Rules for information regarding insurance as well as other important requirements and regulations of Wheeler Landing Yacht Harbor. Please contact us if you need a copy.
  • Address Corrections: Please make sure that if you have changed your address and/or phone number that you notify Wheeler Landing Yacht Harbor to make the necessary changes. Changes can be made via phone, fax, or email to a member of the Board of Directors.
  • Yachting Club of America Membership: Memberships are now available to the Yachting Club of America for $25.00 annually. See the benefits page for details.
  • Dock Boxes: Some of you may have noticed that there are a few dock boxes in the marina. Boxes are allowed under regulations adopted by the Board. Basically, boxes must be of a specific design to be uniform throughout the marina. No decals, logos, boat names, or markings are allowed. The box remains the property of the lessee or shareholder and can be removed by it's owner. A complete list of the rules governing the installation of dock boxes, costs involved, and the installation requirements can be obtained from Jim Patterson, one of our board members. He is in charge of all dock box installations and can be reached at his company

Or catch Jim in the marina at Slip #225. More details about the dock box specifications can be found on the Apex web site.
  • Parking: The parking permit system will be implemented again this 2007 boating season. Lessees will be given one season parking permit that will guarantee them at least one parking space on holidays and busy weekends. A second permit can be purchased for $50 that will guarantee an additional spot to park. On holidays and busy weekends guests and non-permitted vehicles will be asked to park on Marquette Street or in Defoe Park. The permits, which can be transferred from one car to another, will make sure that you have at least one place to park in the marina. This does not mean assigned parking spots. Enforcement is difficult at best, so it requires everyone's cooperation to succeed. Please remember not to park on the grass to prevent damaging the sprinkler heads.
  • Energy Conservation: Energy costs continue to go up. To forestall additional increases in dues (and subsequent lease rates) the board has been looking for ways to conserve energy costs. One good way we can accomplish this goal is to request that boat air conditioner units not be left running when no one is on board, especially when people will be gone for several days. Please help by cooperating and doing your part to help conserve.
  • Clubhouse: Shareholders and lessees are welcome to book the clubhouse and pool for birthday parties and other special events for just $25. See the Harbor Master for details and reservations. Please continue helping to keep things nice at Wheeler - feel free to contact Norma or the night security managers if you think the clubhouse, pool, or other facilities of the marina are being misused.
  • Spring Maintenance Season: Before the season opens we will be busy with maintenance and getting ready for the season open on May 1st. We will have a large barge (or two) in the marina that will need to be able to maneuver to various docks to do necessary repairs. During this time it is imperative that boats not get in the way. If you must have your boat in the water and docked prior to May 1st, you must contact the Harbormaster (as you would normally need to anyway) to arrange for a parking spot (please see the "Early-In" section on the Season Open page for details). We want to keep the number of boats in the marina to a minimum during maintenance season to reduce the risk of damage from the marina contractor equipment and to reduce repair delays/costs. Also be aware that many services (such as water) will not be available until the official season open date of May 1st. Please ensure that if you do have a boat in the marina during spring maintenance, that you provide the Harbor Master with a good way to contact you in the event your boat needs to be moved to facilitate marina repairs.
